What is Geofencing?

Geofencing is setting virtual boundaries within a robot's map to keep it inside approved areas or out of restricted zones, without any physical barrier.

Geofencing lets an operator define areas a robot should treat as off-limits — a stock room, a stage during an event, an area with fragile flooring — or conversely, areas it must stay within, purely through software boundaries drawn on the robot's map. No physical barrier or marker is needed.

This is particularly useful in shared or multi-purpose spaces where the same floor might need different treatment on different days: a conference hall might need full coverage most days but a defined no-go zone during a specific event. Geofences can usually be adjusted quickly through the fleet management dashboard, without a technician visit.

Combined with mapping and scheduling, geofencing gives operators fine control over exactly what a robot does and doesn't cover, which matters for buildings with sensitive areas or variable layouts from week to week.
