At a glance
How it works
A PIN-protected delivery, end to end
- 1
Order is loaded and locked
Kitchen, reception or housekeeping loads the compartment, enters the room number, and closes the door. The load is out of sight from that moment.
- 2
Robot calls the lift itself
The robot routes to the lift, calls it through the integration, boards, selects the guest floor, and travels without a member of staff.
- 3
Guest is notified at the door
On arrival the robot calls or messages the guest room. The guest opens the door to the robot rather than to a corridor trolley.
- 4
PIN releases their compartment only
A one-time code opens the guest's compartment. Other compartments stay locked, so multiple deliveries can share a single trip.
- 5
Returns and docks automatically
The robot returns to its dock, charges, and logs the delivery. Duty managers get a record of what was delivered, where and when.
Business outcomes
What it changes on the night shift
3–5 hours of walking removed per day
Corridor and lift time is the single biggest hidden cost in room service. Automating it lets a leaner night team hold the same service level.
Guest privacy protected
Closed compartments and PIN release mean sensitive items — pharmacy, personal purchases, late-night orders — never sit exposed on a trolley.
Reception is never left unattended
Deliveries no longer pull the only person on the desk away from the lobby, which matters most on the night shift.
Consistent delivery times
The route takes the same time at 2am as at 7pm, so quoted delivery windows hold up and guest complaints about waiting drop.
Recommended models
Two robots built for corridors, not dining rooms
Room service needs enclosed, lockable compartments and lift integration. Open-tray food runners are the wrong tool for a guest floor.

DINERBOT T3
A premium secure delivery robot with lockable, PIN-protected compartments. Built for hotel room service, healthcare rounds, executive dining and corporate office deliveries where privacy and presentation matter.

BUTLERBOT W3
Covers room service, amenity drops, and ward deliveries around the clock — no overnight runner needed. Calls and rides lifts on its own.

- What is a room service robot?
- A room service robot is an autonomous delivery robot that carries food, drinks, amenities and supplies from a hotel's kitchen, reception or housekeeping store to a guest room door without a member of staff walking the route. It calls the lift itself, navigates corridors using LiDAR and 3D vision, phones or messages the guest on arrival, and releases the item only when a PIN or code is entered.
- Do room service robots work with hotel lifts?
- Yes. Keenon robots integrate with most modern lift controllers so the robot calls the lift, waits, boards, and selects the floor without help. Lift integration is scoped during the site survey — Fresh Mango Robotics confirms compatibility with your specific lift installation before you order, and completes the integration as part of the deployment.
- How does a guest receive the delivery securely?
- The robot travels with its compartments closed and locked. On arrival it calls or messages the guest, who enters a one-time code on the touchscreen to release only their compartment. Nothing is left in a corridor and nothing is visible in transit, which is what makes the approach workable for late-night orders, pharmacy items and VIP guests.
- How much does a room service robot save a UK hotel?
- A single robot typically removes 3–5 hours of corridor and lift walking per day across room service, housekeeping top-ups and reception drop-offs. Most operators use that to hold service levels overnight with a leaner night team, and to stop reception being left unattended for deliveries.
- Which robot is best for hotel room service in the UK?
- For secure, enclosed delivery the DINERBOT T3 and BUTLERBOT W3 are the two models to shortlist: both have closed, lockable compartments and lift integration. Open-tray DINERBOT models such as the T8 or T10 are better suited to restaurant and banqueting food running than corridor room service.
- Can it deliver housekeeping items as well as food?
- Yes. Towels, toiletries, bottled water, chargers, laundry and amenity requests are the highest-volume use case in most hotels — usually higher than food. The same robot handles both, and can be scheduled for routine floor top-ups between guest requests.
